Crispin: The Cross of Lead By Avi
Review: Jesus! All thru the book you hear the name. True to medieval times, it is the name that everyone invoked because of dire circumstances. I guess it all goes back to the phrase "there are no atheists in fox holes." Avi plunks us down in the year ad 1377, and takes us thru the horrendous trials and tribulations of a young boy whose heritage puts him in jeopardy. He meets a savior "Bear" who falls in love with the child and saves him from the worst man can do to child. You will love the ability to see what Crispin sees. You will cry "Crispin don't do that!!!" You will tremble, and find yourself reading as fast as Crispin is running! You will sigh when this story finally ends...God bless you AVI! No matter what this gifted writer produces, he wins the highest accolades. His Crispin: The Cross of Lead won the 2003 Newbery Award. When you read this story you will know why. — Reviewed by: |
